Introduction: A Journey Rooted in Understanding

Welcome to my practice! I’m Dr. Alison Grimston, a dedicated functional medicine doctor with a deep commitment to empowering women to reclaim their health and hormones. My journey in medicine began over two decades ago, born from my own experiences and challenges, including a significant personal battle with chronic pain. This path has shaped my holistic approach to health, enabling me to integrate both traditional and alternative healing methods in support of my patients.

Educational Background: A Foundation of Knowledge

I graduated from the University of London in 1994, where my tumultuous yet enlightening nine-year medical education included a BSc in Pharmacology and an MPhil in Physiology. My experiences have taught me that health transcends mere symptom management; it involves understanding the intricacies of our bodies and the mind-body connection. My background equips me with a comprehensive understanding of how hormonal imbalances and lifestyle factors can impact women's health.

Holistic Approach: Healing Beyond Symptoms

In 2013, I founded my bioidentical hormone and functional medicine clinic with a vision to empower women through education, healing, and personalized care. I believe in addressing the root causes of illness, not just the symptoms. My approach combines nutritional adjustments, herbal supplements, bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), and integrative practices tailored to each patient’s unique journey. I am passionate about guiding women through issues like chronic fatigue, thyroid disorders, perimenopause, and autoimmune diseases, helping them regain control over their bodies and lives.

Personal Connection: Rooted in Compassion

As a mother of two grown children and a devoted dog owner of six, I understand the delicate balance between personal and professional responsibilities. My husband, an agricultural entrepreneur, has been my steadfast supporter, sharing my passion for re-wilding and regenerative farming—a reflection of my belief in nurturing both the land and our health.

Mind-Body-Spirit Connection: Embracing Wholeness

My own experiences with burnout have deepened my understanding of the spiritual dimensions of recovery. Through mindfulness, meditation, energy healing, and sound medicine, including the therapeutic use of gongs and crystal bowls, I have developed a profound appreciation for the interconnectedness of body, mind, and spirit. These practices are integral to the healing journey I encourage my patients to embrace.

Final Thoughts: Your Partner in Wellness

I am continually amazed by the resilience and complexity of the human body, and I am honored to be a part of your journey toward optimal health. As you strive to balance the demands of leadership and personal well-being, know that I am here to support you every step of the way. Let’s work together to unlock your potential and restore harmony in your life.

Our approaches are broad, and many are not proven in the conventional medical sense. Conventional medical trials tend to have a linear way of thinking in relation to the way they are set up i.e. do intervention A to get Result B. This is the basis of much of evidence-based medicine with the gold standard being recognised as the randomised control trial. This is also the basis on which most healthcare funding decisions are currently made.

The approaches we use in a variety of illnesses and hormone imbalances may not have as good an evidence base as do conventional approaches. The treatments we offer are often by comparison safer than conventional treatment modalities. It is however important to understand that significantly less research has been done with many of the approaches we offer than with conventional approaches. This is why our treatments are offered on an ‘informed consent’ basis only. It is important not to have false hopes as to what we might be able to achieve; we do not advocate that we can cure your medical complaint.
